ACES (Actualizing Characters by Expanding Self-awareness) is a trauma-informed approach to acting and character development. It's designed to support deep dives into the emotional lives of characters while keeping the actors' well being a priority.
ACES was developed by Alan Powell as a response to international research conducted on the impact of portraying emotionally distressed characters on the actors' mental health. .
Alan's work with actors has led to speaking invitations internationally at conferences such as the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes, Musicians’ and Performing Artists’ Health and Performance and the, Australian Society for Performing Arts Health.
ACES cornerstones are; Resilience, Boundaries, Defense Management and Self-reflection.
